A special photography exhibition was organised by the Italian Consulate in Kolkata, recently, with a series of works by internationally famous photographer Gabriele Basilico. Born in Milan in 1944, Basilico graduated in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic in 1973. Soon after, he turned to photography. The exhibition featured photos of important cities captured by Basilico.
Artist Nola Minolfi, who curated the show, said, "It is an honour to be a part of the curatorial.
I’m humbled to represent and give voice to one of the greatest photographers of the history of the Italian photography scene. The photographs of Gabriele Basilico, today, make for a valuable archive of images that are precious documentation of what Italy had been and still is.”
The Consul General of Italy in Kolkata Gianluca Rubagotti said, "Italy and Kolkata have a great tradition in various art forms, but the idea of this exhibition is to stress the present. We are not basking in the light of a few centuries ago, but are showcasing the more contemporary aspects of our culture. So we are very pleased and are sure Kolkatans will like it."
